(For 4-Gang model)
Electrical installation must be completed by a licensed electrician in the United States.
LIFX Switch replaces a traditional wall switch and must be wired according to local electrical codes. This guide outlines the physical installation process and what to expect from your electrician. Once the Switch is mounted and powered, setup continues in the LIFX app.
A qualified installer should handle wiring the LIFX Switch.
In many US regions homeowners may legally replace switches themselves, but all work must comply with local electrical code and the National Electrical Code (NEC).
The installer should confirm:
the circuit is powered off
the wall box is compatible
Hot, Neutral and Load wires are present
wiring is in good condition
the site has stable WiFi coverage
What’s in the box
LIFX Switch (4-Gang model)
Wiring terminals (pre-installed)
Mounting screws
Faceplate
Quick-start guide
Step 1 — Turn off power (Electrician)
The electrician will isolate power at the service panel.
They will verify the circuit is fully de-energized before touching any wiring.
Step 2 — Remove the existing switch (Electrician)
The electrician will:
remove the faceplate
label and disconnect existing wires
inspect the wiring condition
ensure the wall box is suitable for the Switch depth
If space is tight, the electrician may adjust or reorganize wiring to fit safely.
Step 3 — Wiring the LIFX Switch (Electrician)
Following the wiring diagram in your US manual, the electrician will connect:
Required connections
Line (Hot) → L terminal
Neutral → N terminal
Load wires → individual gang terminals (1–4)
Grounding
Ground wire remains connected to the metal wall box or ground screw, not the Switch body.
Important wiring requirements
Only one conductor per terminal
No exposed copper
Wires must not be pinched or strained
Terminals must be tightened firmly without overtightening
The electrician will confirm the Switch is seated neatly in the box without compressing the wiring.
Step 4 — Mount the Switch
Fit the Switch into the box gently.
Align it so the surface sits flush.
Secure using the provided screws.
Snap the faceplate into place once level.
If the Switch tilts, the electrician will adjust the screw tension or box alignment.
Step 5 — Restore power
Once wiring is complete:
Power is restored at the breaker panel.
The Switch LEDs will illuminate.
The device will enter ready mode and can be paired in the LIFX app.
After installation
With wiring complete, you can now:
open the LIFX app
add the Switch
assign actions to each button
create scenes
configure multi-button behaviour
These steps belong in the Using LIFX Products category.
Troubleshooting basics (non-electrical)
If the Switch doesn’t appear during setup:
check 2.4 GHz WiFi coverage
verify the Switch LEDs illuminate
ensure your phone is on the same network
ask your electrician to confirm wiring if the unit doesn’t power on
The Switch will not operate without a Neutral wire.

Safety notes
Follow all local electrical regulations.
If you’re unsure at any step, contact a licensed electrician.
Always isolate power at the breaker before handling wiring.
Do not remove the Switch faceplate while the circuit is live.
Some jurisdictions require electrical permits — check local rules.
