LIFX Spot Lights are low-voltage outdoor fixtures designed for highlighting landscaping, garden features and building exteriors. This guide covers how to mount the fixture, connect the cables and place the power supply so everything stays secure and weather-resistant.

Ground spike
Mounting plate + screws
Waterproof connector
Low-voltage cable
Power supply (varies by region)
Before you install
Choose your mounting style:
Ground spike — good for gardens, soil, planter boxes
Surface mount — good for decks, walls, posts and hard surfaces
Make sure the installation area is clear of debris and you have access to a suitable outdoor power outlet.
Option 1 — Ground Spike Installation
Press the spike into the soil until stable.
Slide the Spot Light onto the spike fitting.
Aim the light toward the feature you want to highlight.
Leave enough slack in the cable so the head can tilt without strain.
Great for flexibility — and easy to reposition later.
Option 2 — Surface Mount Installation
Use the included mounting plate as a template.
Fix the plate to the desired surface using outdoor-rated screws.
Attach the Spot Light to the plate by sliding it onto the mount.
Adjust the angle and tighten the hinge screw if needed.
Choose a surface that can support the weight and won’t pool water.
Connecting the waterproof cable
The Spot Light includes a weather-resistant connector.
To assemble:
Align the arrows or markers on the male and female ends.
Push firmly until the connector seats fully.
Hand-tighten the threaded collar until snug.
Make sure no gap is visible — this prevents water entry.
Important: Keep all connectors at least a few centimetres above ground level.
Powering the Spotlight
Place the transformer/power supply near a GFCI/RCD-protected outdoor outlet.
Do not cover the power supply — it needs ventilation.
Connect the low-voltage cable to the supply.
Switch power on — the light should activate immediately.
If you’re using multiple lights, confirm your transformer’s wattage is enough to handle the total load.
Outdoor installation tips
Avoid placing the Spot Light where it can sit in standing water.
Angle the head downward slightly to reduce glare and water pooling.
Snow, dirt and mulch should not cover the light or connectors.
Leave enough cable slack so the fixture isn’t supporting weight.
Do not bury cable deeper than manufacturer recommendations (usually shallow, <15 cm).
After installation
Once the light is mounted and powered:
Open the LIFX app
Add the new light
Complete setup as normal
If the light doesn’t appear, check cable seating and ensure the power supply is connected to mains.
Resetting the Spotlight
Use the same reset pattern as other LIFX low-voltage products:
Power cycle the transformer five times.
The light will enter setup mode and pulse white.
Troubleshooting basics
Only part of the cable lights: Check the waterproof connector is tightened correctly.
Light won’t turn on: Confirm the transformer is connected to a working outlet.
Flickering: Usually caused by loose connectors or an undersized transformer.
Intermittent dropouts: Outdoor WiFi range may be low — try relocating the router or adding an outdoor access point.
