LIFX Beam is a modular lighting system designed to mount directly to your wall using Command Strips.
This guide covers the physical installation steps so the bars align cleanly and stay secure before you move on to app setup.
Plan your layout
Before sticking anything to the wall:
lay out all Beam pieces on the floor to confirm your pattern
check you have enough space for the full length
choose where the controller and power cable will sit
make sure the wall surface is clean, smooth and dry
Plan your corners or transitions — the included angled connector corner to determine where the layout changes direction.
Prepare the mounting surface
For best adhesion on Command Strips:
wipe the wall with a dry cloth
lightly clean with isopropyl alcohol if needed
avoid textured or dusty surfaces
Command Strips don’t bond well to brick, stone, concrete, raw timber or heavily textured paint.
Attach the Command Strips
Each Beam bar includes mounting points for adhesive strips.
To install:
Apply the Command Strips to the Beam bar (sticky side to the bar)
Remove the wall-facing backing
Press the bar against the wall firmly for several seconds
Start with the first bar and use the pogo pin and magnetic connectors on each end to magnetically link the beams together
Continue sticking each bar in sequence, including angled connectors
Command Strips should be pressed firmly to activate the adhesive.
Install corner connector (if used)
If your design includes angles:
attach the angled connector directly with Command Strips
connect the Beam bars onto either side of the connector
make sure the connector sits flat against the wall
Gaps or twists usually mean a strip isn’t pressed fully onto the wall.
(NOTE: You CANNOT use a Corner as the first connection with the beam controller)
Cable and controller placement
Position the controller so that:
the cable reaches the first bar without strain
it has a clean route to the power outlet
it’s not hanging unsupported
it is kept clear of areas where people may knock it
Use included cable clips or additional Command hooks for tidy cable routing.
Power on
Immediately after powering on, a light flash along each section will indicate the number of connected beams. If this doesn't happen, or if you are adding more beams later, press the small button on the controller for 1-2 seconds. You may need to unplug and re-plug the power adapter to rerun the count.
If any bar is dark:
check that each segment is fully clicked into its connector
ensure no bar is partially detached from the wall
confirm the controller cable is firmly seated
Mounting tips
Dry-fit the entire layout on the floor before committing to the wall
Align your first bar carefully as therest will follow this angle
Avoid placing strips over wallpaper seams
Press firmly for full adhesion; Command Strips need pressure to bond
After installation
Once everything is mounted and powered on, open the LIFX app to complete setup.
If Beam doesn’t appear, reset it by turning power off and on five times.
