LIFX Neon Flex is designed for smooth bends, uniform diffusion and creative shapes. This guide covers the physical installation steps so you can mount it securely and get it ready for setup in the app.
Plan your layout
Before mounting anything:
unroll the Neon Flex fully
place it along the intended path without bending it sharply
check that the power cable reaches your outlet
confirm you have enough mounting clips
decide where the controller and connector ends will sit
Neon Flex bends gently in one direction but won’t form tight corners. For sharp turns, stagger the bend across several centimetres to keep the silicone casing under less tension.
Prepare the mounting surface
The surface should be:
clean
dry
dust-free
smooth or lightly textured
If mounting outdoors, make sure the surface is stable and free from moisture before installing clips.
Attach the mounting clips
Neon Flex should always be supported by clips.
General spacing:
indoor installs: roughly every 15–20 cm
outdoor installs: slightly tighter, especially in warmer climates where silicone softens
Install clips along your planned route without forcing the flex into unnatural shapes.
Use screws for permanent installs or adhesive-backed clips where drilling isn’t appropriate.
Fit the Neon Flex into the clips
Press the Neon Flex gently into each clip.
To avoid stress on the silicone:
guide it along the curve
avoid twisting the tube
don’t push or force sharp angles
If you feel the tube resisting a bend, ease the curve open rather than pushing harder.
Power and controller placement
Position the controller so it:
isn’t hanging by the cable
is protected from strain on the connectors
has easy access to power
is sheltered from water (for outdoor installs)
Connect the Neon Flex to the controller, then plug it into the power supply.
Once powered, it should light evenly along the length, usually in a steady white glow.
If part of the strip stays dark:
check connectors are fully seated
ensure no clip is pinching the tube
make sure the tube isn’t twisted
Outdoor installation notes
Neon Flex is weather-resistant when installed correctly.
For outdoor setups:
mount the controller somewhere sheltered
avoid placing the strip where water can pool
keep connectors off the ground
use screws rather than adhesives for long-term reliability
leave a little slack near corners to allow for temperature expansion
After installation
Once mounted and powered, open the LIFX app and run through the setup flow.
If the product doesn’t appear during setup, reset it by turning the power off and on five times.
