LIFX Path Lights are low-voltage outdoor fixtures designed for driveways, walkways and garden edges. This guide covers how to mount the light using the ground spike or surface plate, connect the waterproof cabling and position the power supply safely outdoors.
What’s in the box
LIFX Path Light
Ground spike
Surface mounting plate + screws
Waterproof connector
Low-voltage cable
Power supply (varies by region)
Before you install
Choose your mounting style:
Ground spike – best for soil, mulch or garden beds
Surface mounting – for decks, pavers, walls or hard landscapes
Check the area is level, not exposed to standing water and close to a suitable outdoor power outlet.
Option 1 — Ground Spike Installation
Press the spike into the ground until stable.
Slide the Path Light onto the spike connector.
Check the fixture is upright and secure.
Leave a little slack in the cable so the light isn’t carrying tension.
This option is ideal when you want flexibility to reposition lights later.
Option 2 — Surface Mount Installation
Place the mounting plate in your desired position.
Secure the plate using outdoor-rated screws.
Slide the Path Light onto the mount until it clicks or fits firmly.
Adjust the angle if necessary to suit your path or garden layout.
Choose a surface that drains well and won’t trap water around the base.
Connecting the waterproof cable
The included connector keeps moisture out when assembled correctly.
Align the arrows/markers on both cable ends.
Push together firmly until fully seated.
Tighten the threaded collar by hand until snug.
Confirm there are no visible gaps between the collar and connector body.
Tip: Keep connectors slightly above ground — avoid burying them directly in soil.
Powering the Path Lights
Place the transformer/power supply near a GFCI/RCD-protected outlet.
Keep the power supply in a sheltered spot with airflow (don’t cover it).
Connect the low-voltage cable to the supply.
Turn on power — the light should activate immediately.
If using multiple lights, make sure your transformer supports the total wattage.
Outdoor installation tips
Avoid mounting where the base will sit in standing water.
Snow, dirt or mulch should not cover the fixture or connectors.
When running cable across walkways, use outdoor cable clips to prevent tripping.
Do not bury cable deeper than recommended (generally <15 cm).
Leave a little slack in the cable to absorb temperature-related expansion or movement.
After installation
With the lights mounted and powered:
Open the LIFX app
Add the light
Complete setup normally
If the Path Light doesn’t appear in the app, check each connector and confirm the transformer is plugged in and powered.
Resetting the Path Light
Reset the light by power cycling the transformer:
Turn the transformer off and on five times.
The light will enter setup mode and pulse white.
Troubleshooting basics
No power: Check transformer connection and outlet.
Partial lighting: Usually a loose or improperly sealed connector.
Flicker: Often caused by an undersized transformer or water inside the connector.
WiFi dropouts: Outdoor range can be lower — consider relocating your router or adding an outdoor access point.
