(For 2-gang and 4-gang models)
Electrical installation must be completed by a licensed electrician in Australia.
LIFX Switch replaces a traditional wall switch and must be wired to Australian electrical standards. This guide outlines the physical mounting process from the perspective of what the customer can expect, while the actual wiring is performed by a certified professional.
Once installed and powered, you can continue setup in the LIFX app.
Before installation
A licensed electrician must install the LIFX Switch because it connects directly to mains wiring.
Your electrician should confirm:
mains power is isolated
the wiring configuration matches the switch model
the wall box fits the Switch depth
Active, Neutral and Load wires are present as required
WiFi coverage exists at the installation location
LIFX Switch requires a Neutral wire.
If the neutral is not present, the Switch cannot be installed.
What’s in the box
LIFX Switch (2-gang or 4-gang)
Mounting screws
Faceplate
Wiring terminals (pre-installed)
Quick-start guide
Step 1 — Power isolation (Electrician)
Power to the circuit must be switched off at the main switchboard.
Your electrician will verify the line is inactive before handling any wiring.
Step 2 — Remove the existing switch (Electrician)
The electrician will:
remove the faceplate
disconnect the old switch
inspect the wiring
check that the wall box has enough depth and clearance
If the wiring is not in good condition, it must be repaired before installation.
Step 3 — Wiring the LIFX Switch (Electrician)
The electrician will connect:
Active (Line) to the L terminal
Neutral to the N terminal
Load wires to their respective gang terminals
Earth to the wall box if required
The electrician will tighten terminals and check that no copper is exposed.
Requirements from the manual:
use only one conductor per terminal
do not overtighten screws
ensure the housing is not pinched when placed in the wall box
ensure the Switch sits flat and does not twist in the cavity
Step 4 — Mount the Switch in the wall box
Once wired, the electrician will:
Push the Switch gently into the cavity.
Ensure no wires are compressed behind the housing.
Use the supplied screws to secure the switch to the mounting plate.
Confirm the device sits level.
Attach the faceplate until it clicks.
Step 5 — Restore power (Electrician)
The electrician will restore power at the main switchboard.
When powered correctly, the Switch LEDs will illuminate and the device will enter ready mode.
After installation
With electrical work completed, you can now:
open the LIFX app
add the Switch
name your buttons
assign actions and scenes
Configuration belongs in the Using LIFX Products category and will be covered in a separate article.
Troubleshooting notes (non-electrical)
If the Switch doesn’t appear during setup:
confirm the home’s WiFi reaches the switch location
ensure the Switch LEDs illuminate on power
verify the Switch is on a 2.4 GHz network
if in doubt, ask the electrician to confirm the wiring is correct
The Switch cannot operate without neutral wiring.
Safety notes
Installation must comply with Australian electrical standards.
Do not remove the Switch faceplate while the circuit is live.
Do not attempt to repair damaged wiring yourself.
Only a licensed electrician may perform installation, relocation or removal.
