LIFX Lightstrips are flexible, LED strips designed for shelves, cabinets, TVs and feature lighting. This guide covers the physical installation steps to get your strip mounted, powered and ready for setup in the app.
Plan your placement
Before sticking anything down, place the strip loosely where you want it.
Check that:
the surface is clean, dry and flat
the strip isn’t forced around tight corners
the power cable can reach an outlet
the controller is accessible
you have enough length (including extensions if needed)
Lightstrips bend horizontally but not sharply around vertical corners. Use soft curves rather than hard angles.
Prepare the surface
For the adhesive to bond well:
wipe the surface with a dry cloth
use isopropyl alcohol to remove oils or dust
avoid textured or porous surfaces if possible
Give the surface a moment to dry before sticking the strip down.
Mount the Lightstrip
Peel back a small section of adhesive and press the first 10–20 cm firmly into place.
Work your way along the strip gradually rather than removing all the backing at once.
For best results:
avoid stretching the strip
keep it away from sharp bends
avoid placing LEDs directly over heat sources
If installing behind a TV, place LEDs around the outer edge for even light distribution.
Connect the controller and power on
Immediately after powering on, a light flash along each section will indicate the number of connected strips. If this doesn't happen, or if you are adding more strips later, press the small button on the controller for 1-2 seconds. You may need to unplug and re-plug the power adapter to rerun the count.
If any section is dark:
check that each segment is fully clicked into its connector
confirm the controller cable is firmly seated
Mounting tips
For under-cabinet installs, run the strip along the back edge for better diffusion
For TV installs, avoid placing LEDs too close to the edge to reduce glare
For furniture installs, avoid mounting where drawers or doors might rub the strip
After installation
Once the strip is firmly mounted and powered on, open the LIFX app to complete setup.
If the strip doesn’t appear, reset it by turning power off and on five times.
