Before configuring your Matter-enabled Switch buttons, update your compatible LIFX Switch to Matter firmware through the LIFX app and complete Matter commissioning.
These instructions apply to LIFX Switches running Matter firmware 4.100 or later.
If the Matter Actions option does not appear while configuring a button, the Switch has not been successfully paired through Matter.
To configure your Matter enabled switch buttons:
- Open the settings screen.
- Click "Switch".
- Click "Button Set-Up"
On this page, you will see the 2 or 4 buttons depending on your Switch model:
Each button has 3 configurable gesture types:
Single Press: This is a quick tap of a Switch button with your finger. It is a very short press.
It looks like this:
Double Press: This is a quick ‘tap tap’ of the Switch button with your finger.
It looks like this:
Long Press: This is when you press your finger on the Switch button and hold it there for a second or two. This gesture is known as ‘Press and hold’ when used on touch screens.
It looks like this:
- To configure a button gesture, tap on Button 1 - Single Press:
There are three Action Types available:
1. Matter Actions
These actions run locally through Matter and allow you to control supported Matter-enabled LIFX devices. Because the actions run locally, they will generally respond faster than Cloud Actions.
Use Matter Actions when the Switch and the LIFX devices you want to control are Matter-enabled and commissioned through Matter.
Note: If you do not see the Matter Actions option in the LIFX app, your Switch is not currently paired through Matter.
Actions include:
- Toggle on/off
2. Cloud Actions
These actions run through the LIFX Cloud and allow you to control LIFX devices connected to your LIFX account.
Use Cloud Actions if some or all of the LIFX devices you want to control are not Matter-enabled.
Cloud Actions require both the Switch and the target devices to be online and connected to the LIFX Cloud when the button is pressed. They may respond slightly more slowly than Matter Actions because cloud processing is required.
Actions include:
- Toggle on/off
- Scene
- Turn on
- Turn off
- Increase brightness
- Decrease brightness
3. No Action
This allows you to remove the action assigned through the LIFX app and configure the button through another Matter ecosystem, such as Apple Home.
Removing the LIFX action helps prevent two different actions from being triggered by the same button gesture.e time.
For this example, we will select Matter Actions, as we want to toggle our Matter enabled lights in our Bedroom.
- Select Matter Actions
- Select Toggle On/Off and then press the Next Button.
- Next, select the Lights or Room you wish to toggle on and off.
Note: Only available Matter-enabled lights will appear here. Use Cloud Actions to control LIFX devices that are not Matter-enabled.
- Press Save.
- You can now test your custom button by double-pressing Button 1 on your Switch. The selected lights should toggle on or off.
