The setup process depends on whether your Switch is running Matter firmware 4.100 or later, or legacy non-Matter firmware.
If the Switch has already been added to the LIFX app, check its firmware version under the device settings before following any Apple Home instructions.
Connect a Switch using Android
- Open the LIFX app.
- Tap the + icon in the top-right corner.
- Tap New Device, then select New Switch.
- Select your Switch when it appears.
- Choose your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network.
- Enter your Wi-Fi password.
- Wait for the Switch to connect.
- Choose or create a location for the Switch.
- Choose or create a group for the Switch.
- Name the Switch.
Your Switch is now connected to the LIFX app and ready for button configuration.
Connect a Switch using iOS
Matter firmware 4.100 and later
Matter-enabled Switches use Matter commissioning rather than the previous HomeKit setup process.
- Open the LIFX app.
- Tap the + icon in the top-right corner.
- Tap New Device, then select New Switch.
- Follow the prompts in the LIFX app to add the Switch to your Wi-Fi network and LIFX account.
- Choose or create a location and group.
- Name the Switch.
- Complete Matter commissioning using the Matter setup details provided for that specific Switch.
Matter-enabled Switches have a 15-minute Matter commissioning window after startup or reboot.
If the commissioning window expires, reboot the Switch by pressing and holding all buttons for approximately 5 seconds, then release when the status LED turns blue.
Do not use the legacy HomeKit code or wait for the Switch to leave “HomeKit mode.” Those steps apply only to legacy non-Matter firmware.

Legacy non-Matter firmware: iOS and HomeKit setup
- Open the LIFX app.
- Tap the + icon in the top-right corner.
- Tap New Device, then select New Switch.
- Tap the green arrow.
Select your Switch.
If the Switch does not appear, follow the LIFX-only setup for legacy firmware instructions below.
- Tap the green arrow.
- Select the Apple Home you want to use.
- When the HomeKit pairing screen appears, scan or manually enter the HomeKit code.
- Choose or create a location for the Switch in the LIFX app.
- Choose or create a group for the Switch.
- Name the Switch.
Your Switch is now connected and ready for button configuration.
LIFX-only setup for legacy non-Matter firmware on iOS
Use this process only for a Switch running legacy non-Matter firmware.
Do not use these instructions for a Matter-enabled Switch.
- Power on or reset the Switch and allow it to remain powered for 15 minutes. This allows the Switch to leave the legacy HomeKit setup mode.
- Open the Wi-Fi settings on your iPhone or iPad.
Locate the Switch under My Networks.
Before the 15-minute period expires, the Switch may appear under Set Up New Device. After the period expires, it should move to My Networks.
- Select the Switch under My Networks.
- Return to the LIFX app and wait while the app connects to the Switch.
- The Switch should appear in the Almost Done section of the dashboard.
- Tap the Switch.
- Tap Get Started.
- Tap the green arrow.
- Select your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network.
- Tap the green button in the bottom-right corner.
- Enter your Wi-Fi password.
- Wait for the Switch to connect.
- Choose or create a location.
- Choose or create a group.
- Name the Switch.
Your Switch is now connected to the LIFX app and ready for button configuration.
Troubleshooting setup
If the Switch does not appear during setup:
- Confirm that your phone is connected to the Wi-Fi network you want to use for the Switch.
- Confirm that the network supports 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi.
- Make sure you are following the setup process for the Switch’s installed firmware.
- For Matter firmware 4.100 or later, confirm that the 15-minute commissioning window is still open.
- For legacy non-Matter firmware, confirm that the Switch is in the appropriate setup state.
- Reboot or factory reset the Switch using the instructions for its installed firmware.
Do not use legacy HomeKit setup instructions with a Matter-enabled Switch.
