Switch HomeKit Pairing: Legacy Non-Matter Firmware

Does this article apply to my Switch?

These instructions apply only to LIFX Switches using legacy non-Matter firmware.

Do not use this process if your Switch is running Matter firmware 4.100 or later. Matter-enabled Switches connect to Apple Home through Matter and do not use the legacy HomeKit Pair and Get Code workflow described below.

Check the firmware version shown in the LIFX app before proceeding.

How do I pair a legacy non-Matter Switch with Apple Home?

First, onboard the Switch to the LIFX app.

Once the Switch is connected to the LIFX app:

  1. Open the LIFX app.
  2. Tap the cog in the bottom navigation to open Settings.
  3. Under Accessories, select Switch.
  4. Select the Switch you want to pair.
  5. Scroll to the HomeKit section.
  6. Tap Pair.

If the Pair option does not appear:

  1. Reboot the Switch using the instructions for legacy non-Matter firmware.
  2. Wait for the Switch to reconnect.
  3. Return to the HomeKit section in the LIFX app.

Once the Pair option is available:

  1. Tap Get Code.
  2. Record the HomeKit code shown in the LIFX app.
  3. Close the code screen and return to the Switch settings.
  4. Tap Pair again.
  5. Tap Pair Switch.
  6. Select the Apple Home location you want to use.
  7. When the Add Accessory screen appears, tap More Options.
  8. Tap Enter Code.
  9. Enter the HomeKit code shown in the LIFX app.
  10. Complete the remaining steps in Apple Home.

Once pairing is complete, the LIFX app will show the Switch’s HomeKit details and an option to remove it from Apple Home.

What appears in Apple Home?

After pairing, Apple Home may display tiles representing the Switch and its wired relays.

The Switch tile contains controls for the terminals configured as wired in the LIFX app.

Terminals configured as not wired in the LIFX app will not appear as wired relay controls in Apple Home.

Matter-enabled Switches

If your Switch is running Matter firmware 4.100 or later, do not follow the legacy HomeKit steps above.

Matter-enabled Switches:

  • Use Matter commissioning rather than legacy HomeKit pairing.
  • Do not use the legacy Pair and Get Code workflow.
  • Use Matter commissioning credentials rather than the previous HomeKit code.
  • Have a 15-minute Matter commissioning window after startup or reboot.
