FAQ: The backlight stays on and is too bright?

Switch backlight to non-LIFX device too bright?

If you have a button setup to control non-LIFX device like a ceiling fan, you might notice the status backlight stays on and is very bright. This can get very annoying at night and illuminate a room making it difficult to sleep. 

Currently, there is no way to configure this in the app. However, there is a clever work around that will make the status backlight turn off when you have your fan running on a hot summers night.

Steps:

  1. Make sure your wiring setup for the terminal is set to wired. And give the device a recognisable name. E.g. Ceiling Fan.
  2. Place your Ceiling Fan in a group by itself and name it. E.g. Ceiling Fan Group.
  3. Go to Settings > Switch > LIFX Switch and in the button Setup, assign the button to the group Ceiling Fan Group.

This will make the backlight work as it does for your LIFX bulbs and not stay on after pressing it.
