Switch HomeKit Code Recovery: Legacy Non-Matter Firmware

Does this article apply to my Switch?

These instructions apply only to LIFX Switches using legacy non-Matter firmware that were not originally supplied with a HomeKit code.

Do not use this process if:

  • Your Switch is running Matter firmware 4.100 or later.
  • Your Switch was originally supplied with a HomeKit code in its packaging.
  • A HomeKit code is etched on the inside of the Switch cover.

Matter-enabled Switches connect to Apple Home through Matter and do not use the legacy HomeKit code recovery process described below.

Check the firmware version shown in the LIFX app before proceeding.

How do I recover the HomeKit code for a legacy non-Matter Switch?

Make sure you are using the latest version of the LIFX app for iOS before proceeding.

Reboot the Switch

First, reboot the Switch using the instructions for legacy non-Matter firmware:

  1. Press and hold the bottom button.
  2. After approximately 3 seconds, the status LED will turn red and the Switch will provide a haptic pulse.
  3. Release the button within 2 seconds of this indication.
  4. The Switch will reboot without removing its settings.

If you continue holding the button beyond the release window, the reboot will be cancelled and the Switch will return to its previous state.

Retrieve the HomeKit code

Once the Switch has rebooted:

  1. Open the LIFX app.
  2. Select the Switch.
  3. Tap the three horizontal dots in the top-right corner.
  4. Tap Switch Settings.
  5. Under HomeKit Status, tap Pair.
  6. Tap Get Code.
  7. Record the unique HomeKit code displayed in the app.

You can save the code as a PDF or an image in your camera roll. Keep the code available while completing the remaining steps.

Connect the Switch to Apple Home

  1. Return to the HomeKit section in the Switch settings.
  2. Tap Pair.
  3. Tap Pair Switch.
  4. When the Apple Home setup screen opens, tap I Do Not Have a Code or Cannot Scan.
  5. Under Manual Code, tap Enter Code.
  6. Enter the HomeKit code retrieved from the LIFX app.
  7. Follow the remaining prompts in Apple Home to complete pairing.

Once setup is complete, the Switch will appear in Apple Home.

Matter-enabled Switches

These code recovery instructions do not apply to Switches running Matter firmware 4.100 or later.

After a Switch is updated to Matter firmware:

  • It uses Matter commissioning instead of legacy HomeKit pairing.
  • The legacy Pair and Get Code workflow is no longer used.
  • The previous HomeKit code is not used for Matter commissioning.
  • The Switch must be added to Apple Home using its Matter commissioning credentials.
