If you have night vision cameras compatible with 950nm IR, this invisible light can extend the area the camera can see at night. Check your camera manual, or website, to make sure your camera can see 950nm IR light. This is a feature you don't have to set up to get the benefit of, it will activate when the light bulb itself appears off or the visible light is below 10% brightness.
Controlling a Nightvision product and changing the Infrared level
In the LIFX app, the control screen you can access on the individual light (accessed by clicking the name of the light on the dashboard) will show an "eye" icon above the control wheel if the bulb is Nightvision compatible. This shows you in the app which of your bulbs have IR technology built in.
How to enable IR
Your LIFX Nightvision light will automatically use IR when the lights visible brightness (how it looks to the human eye) is very low (between 5 and 10%) or off. If the light itself is visibly 'on', the visible light will assist your security cameras to see anyway, so it will only kick in when the light is low.
How to disable IR
To do this, click on the light's name to get to its control screen in the app. Tap the more options menu (...) in the top right-hand corner to get to the 'Light Settings' for the bulb.
You can opt to have IR at 100% (full strength), 50% (mid strength), or off. The bulb will then use these settings when triggered by the visible light hitting 10% or less, or completely 'off'.
