Control: How to Paint LIFX Polychrome Products

Customizing the polychrome-enabled Beam, Lightstrips and Candles, as well as the more recently launched String Lights, Neon Flexes, Ceiling lights and Luna is what creative LIFX users love most about their LIFX experience. We felt this feature was ready for a big upgrade.

Over the years the LIFX paint experience has remained close to the original design, but with a slew of new products and far more interesting possibilities with new zone configurations meant it was no longer meeting the needs of the LIFX community. So, after asking you what you really wanted to achieve with the paint feature, we have redesigned it for the ultimate control over your Polychrome products.

SuperColor Gradients

LIFXers love our theme library, and to date, it has been the only way to apply stunning blended gradients—and we realise the former finger-paint feature was more Atari 2600 than Nintendo Switch. Now we have SuperColor Gradients! Use the Contrast mode with preset complementary colors 120° apart on the color wheel, Adjacent for a closer matching colors 45° apart, Tints for a saturation gradient on one specific color or be your own James Turrell with Custom mode and create a kaleidoscope of color that would not be out of place at MoMA. 🧑‍🎨

Brightness and Power State by Zone

For our linear products like String Lights, Neon Flex, and Lightstrips, we found that users wanted to be able to turn off selected sections of their lights, as well as alter the brightness of specific sections to create highlights or varied lighting in a space. With the new Zone Selector, you can select specific zones, adjust the color, brightness, and turn them on/off as needed. No need to cut your lights with scissors—you can now turn off any unneeded sections with the app whenever you don’t need them. ✂️

Selecting every zone one-by-one can be a drainer, the presets speeds up the process with:

  1. Odds & Evens: Create Christmas candy canes or zebra stripes by easily switching between odd and even zones.

  2. Zone Switch: Switch between selected zones and unselected. 

  3. Delete: Delete all selected zones and start from scratch.

  4. Revert: Go back to the previous zone selection state.
