Changing Wi-Fi Networks or Routers – What to Do (Depending on Your Setup)
Important: Not all LIFX lights need to be reset when changing Wi-Fi. Follow the scenarios below to determine if a reset is required based on your situation.
Scenario 1: No Change to Network Name or Password
No reset needed.
If your new router uses the same Wi-Fi name (SSID) and password as your old one:
Your LIFX lights should reconnect automatically.
There is no need to reset or reconfigure your lights — they’ll behave as they did with your previous router.
This is the simplest method, especially useful for homes with many devices.
Scenario 2: Changing Wi-Fi Name or Password
Full reset needed if you change the Wi-Fi network name and/or password:
You’ll need to reset your LIFX lights and re-add them to the app, as if setting them up for the first time.
Your schedules and scenes will still be available once your lights are reconnected.
If you reuse the same light names, most integrations (e.g. Alexa, Google Home) should continue working as expected.
Tips:
If you're moving to a new home, consider setting your new router to use the same Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password as your previous one to avoid resetting devices.

Why this matters:
Smart devices like LIFX store network credentials to connect. A mismatch in SSID or password means they won’t recognize the new network.
