Using Groups on the LIFX App

Groups are collections of lights or products you want to control together frequently. We often think of groups as rooms—wanting to quickly turn off, on or dim the lights in one physical space is a common 'quick action' that groups are very handy for. 

When claiming LIFX lights to your account, you will create a 'Location', 'Group', and unique light name during setup.

Creating/Adding a new Group

1. Choose the light you would like to be the first to move to the new Group
(you can't have an empty Group, so you will need at least one light per Group to create one).

2. Tap the name tag of the light you want to use () to access the control screen for that light

3. Tap the menu in the upper right of the control screen, to access this light's settings

4. Tap the Group name, and choose 'New Group'. Name this Group when prompted.

5. The new Group should be auto-selected in the list (you will see a green dot next to it), so hit 'Save'.

Re-naming or customising your Group with pictures: 

1. Tap the Group name () in the top left of the Group's card.

2. Tap the menu in the upper right , click on 'Group settings'.

3. Rename the Group. You can also change the image used to represent your Group here by clicking the button over the image that says 'change'. You can choose to use pre-made LIFX custom illustration or photo pre-sets, or add your own pictures through the camera or your photo library to personalise the look of your LIFX app. 

When customizing your Group images, keep in mind that these will only appear on your device, not across the account on every device it is used. This allows different members of your household to make their own dashboard, personalized to them and their style. 

Moving lights to a different Group: 

1. Choose the light you would like to be the first to move to the other Group

2. Tap the name tag of the light () to access the control screen for that light

3. Tap the menu in the upper right , to access this light's settings

4. Tap the Group name, and select your preferred Group from the list, then Save.

5. Repeat for any other lights you would like to see in the group.


Removing a Group:

You must have at least one Group for your lights to sit in, and all lights must have a Group. If you want to remove a group entirely, you will first need to reassign the location of each light. When there are no lights left, the group will be removed. To do this:

1. Expand the group you want to remove by tapping on the picture card so that you can see each individual light's name. 

2. Tap the name tag of the first light () to access the control screen for that light.

3. Tap the menu in the upper right , to access this light's settings

4. Tap the Group name, and select your preferred Group for this light from the list, then Save.

5. Repeat this process until completing the last light. The Group will now be removed.

This is where you will find your Light Settings for any particular light. You can assign Groups and Locations here, as well as rename lights.

Select Light Settings, shown here, to access the settings screen.

Click on the grey name tag button with the name of the group that the light is currently in. 

You can see where to find the 'New Group’ button here.

Here is where you can add a name for the New Group. Once you're done, press the “ok” button.

The new Group you've just created should be selected automatically (you can see the green selection next to 'Gaming' above). 
Once you have saved, the new group will now appear on the dashboard. 

To add other lights to your new Group, follow these steps and assign each light individually. This time select your Group, then 'Existing Groups' instead of creating a new group.
