Cloud connection stability
LIFX cloud server connectivity
Cloud connection stability tracks how consistently your LIFX device maintains its connection to LIFX cloud servers over time. Even with strong local signal and low interference, this depends on your broader internet service and router configuration. It is the backbone for remote control, voice assistants, schedules, and automations.
Status levels
Stable Connected consistently. All remote features work as expected. | Intermittent Occasional brief drops. Some missed commands are possible. | Unstable Frequent disconnections. Remote features are unreliable. |
How to improve cloud connection stability
1 | Verify your internet connection is working by loading a website on your phone or computer. |
2 | Restart your modem and router by unplugging them for 30 seconds, then powering back on. |
3 | Check the LIFX service status page for any known cloud outages. Visit status.lifx.com to see if there's an active incident affecting your region. |
4 | Update your router's firmware to the latest version via its admin panel. Outdated firmware can cause stability and DNS issues that affect cloud-connected devices. |
5 | Disable any VPN running on your network, as these can block outbound connections to LIFX servers. |
6 | Check your router's firewall settings. LIFX requires outbound access on port 443 (HTTPS) and port 56700 (UDP). Port 443 handles encrypted cloud communication; port 56700 is used for local device discovery. |
7 | If only one device shows Unstable while others are Stable, re-pair it using the LIFX app to refresh its cloud registration. |
When to contact support
| → | All your LIFX devices show Unstable simultaneously, which may indicate a network-wide configuration issue |
| → | A device remains Unstable after re-pairing and you've confirmed your internet connection is working |
| → | You suspect a LIFX cloud outage that isn't reflected on the status page |
