A hardware reset returns your LIFX light to setup mode, so you can onboard it again or reconnect it to your Wi-Fi network.
Choose the instructions below that match your product.
Resetting LIFX Bulbs
Reset steps:
Make sure the light is turned ON
Turn the light off and on at the power source 5 times, slowly and at consistent intervals
On the final power-on, the light will show its reset pattern and enter setup mode
Reset patterns:
LIFX Color products: flash red → green → blue, then settle on white
LIFX Mini Day & Dusk: cycle warm → mixed → cool
LIFX Mini White: dim → medium brightness → flash bright
If no pattern appears, repeat the sequence slightly slower.
Resetting the LIFX Original (Physical switch bulb)
Turn off the power to the LIFX Original
Locate the small switch on the back of the bulb
Move the switch to the opposite position
Turn the power back on
The bulb will flash red, green, blue, and white to confirm the reset
Resetting Lightstrips Products with Controllers
These products reset via the controller button.
(However, you can also reset these products by turning the power off and on 5 times, just like a standard LIFX bulb).
Reset steps:
Ensure the controller has power
Press and hold the small controller button for 10–15 seconds
Release when the connected sections begin flashing or colour cycling
The light re-enters setup mode
If certain sections flash differently, see "Light flashing red, green, and blue" article.
Resetting the LIFX Switch
Reset steps:
Hold down ALL buttons on the Switch at the same time
(Works for both 2-button and 4-button variants)Keep holding for about 10 seconds
When the status LED flashes green and a haptic pulse occurs,
release all buttonsThe Switch has now entered Setup Mode
How to Confirm the Reset Worked
Your device should:
Display the reset pattern listed above
Enter pairing mode within 15–20 seconds
Appear in the LIFX app as ready for setup
If not, repeat the reset slowly.
When to Reset a LIFX Device
Resetting is recommended if:
You changed your Wi-Fi network, password, or router
The device was previously set up somewhere else
You’re troubleshooting setup or connection issues
The device won’t appear in the app
You’re passing it on to someone else

If the device won’t reset or doesn’t enter setup mode:
Make sure it isn’t connected to a dimmer or smart switch
Test from another outlet or circuit
For modular products, try resetting with only one section connected
For Switch, ensure all buttons are held simultaneously
