Controlling your Matter-enabled LIFX lights through Apple’s Home app is easy, but there are a few things you’ll need to get started.
✅ What You Need
To set up and control your LIFX lights in Apple Home, you’ll need one of the following:
A recent iPhone or iPad running iOS 18, or
A HomePod, HomePod mini, or Apple TV (HD or 4K models) set up as a Home Hub
If you're using only an iPhone or iPad, you’ll still be able to control your lights locally — but some advanced features require a Home Hub.
💡 Why a Home Hub Is Recommended
A Home Hub acts as the brain of your Apple Home, enabling important features and remote access. If you want to unlock the full potential of your LIFX lights, we recommend setting one up.
With a Home Hub, you'll gain access to:
Remote control of your LIFX lights from anywhere
Automations and scheduling via the Home app
Adaptive Lighting, where your LIFX lights adjust color temperature throughout the day
⚠️ Without a Home Hub, features like Adaptive Lighting won’t be available, and remote control won’t work when you're away from home.
Tip: If you don't have all the necessary devices to use Adaptive Lighting, try out LIFX's Circadian Rhythm routine — available in the LIFX app. It adjusts your light’s color temperature based on the time of day, helping support your natural sleep-wake cycle.
🛠 Setup Tips
Ensure your LIFX Matter lights are set up and powered on
Open the Apple Home app on your iPhone or iPad
Tap “+” > Add Accessory
Scan the Matter pairing code (found on the packaging or on the device itself)
Follow the prompts to complete setup
Once paired, your lights will appear in the Home app and can be grouped into rooms, added to scenes, and controlled by Siri.
