How do I update my lights firmware?
LIFX recommends you update your firmware whenever a new update becomes available. Firmware updates often include new features, bug fixes, improved security and performance enhancements.
LIFX will alert you when a firmware update is available via a blue notification on the gear icon in the App's top menu.
Updating your Firmware
1. Click on the Gear icon ⚙️ in the top menu to open Account Settings
2. Click Update Firmware
3. Lights that need a Firmware Update will be listed here. Step through the in-app prompts.
Leave the updater open. Do not power off any lights during the update.
Troubleshooting Firmware
Best practice:
1. Update one light at a time
2. Ensure your router is in close proximity to the lights
3. Turn off any lights at the switch that you do not wish to update
If your lights still don't update:
1. Turn the lights off at the switch
2. Wait for 5 seconds
3. Turn the light back on at the switch
4. Wait for 30 seconds
5. Run the updater again
We also recommend:
1. Temporarily disabling wireless 'N' band on your Wi-Fi router
2. Effectively this is changing your 2.4Ghz network to be 802.11 b, g compatible, or 802.11g only
3. Once the update is complete, you will be able to re-enable the N settings on your router
