Getting Started with Alexa
Controlling Scenes with Alexa
What is a Scene? π
Scenes are like a 'snapshot' of your light settings. So, say your perfect relaxing evening has all your lights in your lounge room set to 50% brightness and your bedroom lights switched off. You can create a Scene in the LIFX app to save this exact setting so you can easily return to it rather than reconfiguring each light!
Your Scenes from the LIFX app will also transfer to Alexa. You can check they are there by tapping SCENES. These scenes can be controlled by name, using Alexa.
To control your scenes:
- Create a scene in the LIFX app (use the '+' in the bottom right)
- Open the Alexa app
- Scan for new devices and your Scenes will appear
Try saying, "Alexa, turn on [scene]"
When you add more LIFX to your home, you may quickly add them to Alexa for voice control. Return to the Alexa app -> SMART HOME in the Alexa app. Tap on DEVICES, scroll to the bottom, and tap DISCOVER. Any new lights will be added to your devices for Alexa to control.
Note: Remember to add the new lights to groups in Alexa as well for easier voice control.
Controlling Colors with Alexa π
You can now control your individual LIFX and Alexa Light groups to set colors!
Try saying "Alexa, turn <light name> [color]"
Of course, you must have a color-enabled LIFX light to do thisβwe can't make a white-only bulb do color (although we wish we could!).
Shades of white:
- Warm white
- Soft white
- White
- Daylight
- Cool white
You can also choose from a growing number of color options, including the following:
