Welcome to LIFX!
We want to make sure you are able to get set up as easily as possible and following the steps in this guide is the most important part of getting your LIFX light up and running
Step 1
What you need from your LIFX packaging
If you haven’t already discarded it, please locate your LIFX packaging and obtain the booklet (or card) from inside the box. This booklet has a code on the back containing important information that can assist with setup and warranty if there are any issues with your product.
We know it can feel nice to get rid of boxes so we suggest that you take a picture of the code on the booklet and save it somewhere for easy access if needed later.
iOS users, you will need this information if you want to use your LIFX light with Homekit!
Step 2
What is helpful to look at on your LIFX device before installing
Before sticking lights to surfaces or screwing into fixtures, it is also helpful to take a picture of the laser-etchings and codes on your LIFX product. Bulbs will have these on their base, and beams and strips will have this on their controller, which is connected between the power supply and the base of the product. Save these pictures somewhere for easy access if needed later.
Step 3
Powering your LIFX device
We suggest powering your device in a room close to your Wi-Fi router or where you have maximum wifi strength for this step. This helps avoid any interference or issues that can arise from a poor Wi-Fi connection. You can move your device to your ideal location once your light is added successfully to your network.
Once powered, your LIFX device should shine a bright white color.
If your device does not power on or looks different from a still bright white color, please go here.
Step 4
Your Wi-Fi Connection
Make sure you have your Wi-Fi network name and password available for the network that you’d like your LIFX device to pair with. For LIFX products, your connection must be:
- On the 2.4GHz Network.
- If your 2.4 and 5Ghz networks share the same name, it may be helpful to rename one of these bands to create an independent network before setup. You can disregard this step if you're on a Mesh System (Eero, Google WiFi, Orbi, etc.).
- Private - LIFX products are not optimised to be used on an open or communal networks
- Free of any AdBlocks, VPN's, Firewalls or parental control features enabled during setup of your lights.
